It's one of my all-time favorite miniseries, 1983's The Thorn Birds starring Richard Chamberlain as an ambitious priest who is tortured by the love he as for the church and the forbidden passion he shares for a young woman named Meggie Cleary. Oh, it's sooooo good.
Several years ago, my mom told me how she was hooked to the show back in the eighties, and when it came on the Hallmark Channel a few years back, I had to watch it. I believe it was an anniversary special, the DVD (which I have in my collection at home) wasn't in stores at the time. I just fell in love with it, especially Father Ralph de Bricassar. I wanted him to be with Meggie, "Come on, you can love the church and her, you don't have to pick!" Haha, I would always say that to the TV, anyway, it's been decades since Chamberlain and Ward have seen each other, until a recent visit to PBS's Pioneers of Television. Chamberlain said to Ward, "I'm absolutely thrilled, and it seems like not much has changed. You look more beautiful than ever, by the way."
The Thorn Birds, it's one of the greatest romance movies ever, although expect the flood gates in your eyes to be in overdrive...
