WHAT: Savannah Riverkeeper's 13th Annual PADDLEFEST

May 1, 2019 - Augusta, GA - Savannah Riverkeeper invites you to celebrate our 13th annual Paddlefest on Saturday, May 11, 2019. This event offers paddlers in kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards an exciting opportunity to participate in recreation or race division on the Savannah River.
The route will be from downtown Augusta to the boat ramp at Lock & Dam, a winding 10 miles downstream. This is a beautiful flat-water route that few locals paddle, and is worth exploring!
“With all the changes coming to the Lock & Dam, we wanted to introduce paddlers to the lower portion of the channel that they might not have tried,” said Savannah Riverkeeper Tonya Bonitatibus. “Planning for the future of the river depends on the ways we, as a community, use it. The more we recreate and appreciate it, the better we will care for it.”
There will be also an after paddle awards ceremony at Lock & Dam with food! It begins at 11am-2pm and is open to the public. Food, beer and SRK merchandise will be available to purchase. “Lock & Dam was for many years an important gathering place for families, fishermen, and more,” said Bonitatibus. “We want people to come back to the park, realize that it’s a diamond-in-the-rough, and start thinking about the ways we can make it a place everyone can enjoy again.”
